Information for High School Students

Tips:

  • Districts are launching home learning programs or Virtual learning programs.

  • The students need to constantly check emails as email is the only way to communicate between the student and teacher.

  • Most districts are using either Google Hangouts or ZOOM.

  • Teachers are required to be available for questions/teach how to do the lesson for the day during their “school” hours.

  • For freshmen only, the STAAR Test requirements this year have been voided by the Governor, meaning that all they have to do is pass their classes. Example if they fail algebra 1 this year, next year they will have to take the Algebra 1 STAAR test.

  • Pick a quiet place at home where students do not have any distractions to do their work.

  • If the instruction comes from videos /teacher teaching through video, it is highly RECOMMENDED that the student wears headphones that can connect to the device.

  • If instruction is through live video, as the teacher is going through the lesson, it is useful for everyone if the students mute themselves so that there is not any disruptive feedback.

  • The local high schools around your area or the ones that you attend might be offering food for breakfast and lunch at the curb where they hand them to you during their specific times.

  • Take notes as some teachers might take them for grades and it would be helpful for you to use them for the quizzes/tests.

  • If students do not have access to the internet, some of the internet companies are giving discounted prices or maybe even for free during these times.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to your teachers directly. Your counselor is also available to support and guide you in the right direction.

Consejos:

  • Los distritos están lanzando programas de aprendizaje en el hogar o programas de aprendizaje virtual.

  • Los estudiantes necesitan revisar constantemente los correos electrónicos ya que el correo electrónico es la única forma de comunicarse entre el estudiante y el maestro.

  • La mayoría de los distritos están usando Hangouts de Google o ZOOM.

  • Se requiere que los maestros estén disponibles para preguntas / enseñar cómo hacer la lección durante el día durante sus horas de "escuela".

  • Solo para estudiantes de primer año, los requisitos del Examen STAAR de este año han sido anulados por el Gobernador, lo que significa que todo lo que tienen que hacer es aprobar sus clases. Ejemplo, si fallan en álgebra 1 este año, el próximo año tendrán que tomar el Examen STAAR de Álgebra 1.

  • Las escuelas secundarias locales alrededor de su área o las a las que asiste podrían estar ofreciendo comida para el desayuno y el almuerzo en la acera donde se las entregan durante sus horarios específicos.

  • Tome notas, ya que algunos maestros pueden tomarlas para las calificaciones y sería útil que las use para las pruebas / exámenes.

  • Si los estudiantes no tienen acceso a Internet, algunas de las compañías de Internet están ofreciendo precios con descuento o tal vez incluso de forma gratuita durante estos tiempos.

  • Si tiene alguna pregunta o inquietud, comuníquese directamente con sus maestros. Su consejero/a también está disponible para apoyarlo y guiarlo en la dirección correcta.
